1. Keep Your Gas Tank Full
1. Keep Your Gas Tank Full
In case of evacuation or power outages, having a full gas tank is crucial. It also prevents the fuel line from freezing during cold weather.
2. Winter Tires
Install good winter tires with sufficient tread or any chains/studs required in your local area. Proper tires enhance traction and stability, especially in snowy or icy conditions.
3. Avoid Flooded Areas
Never drive through flooded roads. Just six inches of water can cause a vehicle to lose control or stall. A foot of water can float many cars. Be cautious even after floodwaters recede; weakened roads may collapse under a car’s weight.
4. Watch Out for Fallen Power Lines
If a power line falls on your car, stay inside until a trained person removes it. This avoids the risk of electrical shock.
5. Control in Emergencies
If your car becomes hard to control, follow these steps:
- Pull over safely.
- Stop the car.
- Set the parking brake.
- Avoid overpasses, bridges, power lines, signs, and other hazards if the emergency affects roadway stability.
